On route to the Parque Nacional Torres del Paine is a town called Puerto Natales. It is a port town with mountain views and the sound of the wind. By luck I arrived to find a music stage set up for the Festival de Artesania y Turismo en la Patagonia 2017. It was a celebration of Patagonian artists and crafts. At least five musicians where on stage playing to a much less rowdy and outgoing crowd than in both Argentina and Brazil. Happy music with a foot tapping beat. Plenty of local food stalls also provided the taste of Patagonia.
About a 100km drive north you enter the national park. Granite towers, wildlife and an abundance of epic vistas. I spotted guanacos, foxes, eagles and an armadillo. There’s nothing not to love about this place.
Next stop the Chilean Lake District via Puerto Varas…
